You may find it helpful to loosen the bolts in the pivot spacer to make unfolding the assembly easier. Next, attach the seat to the front legs using (2) 1 7/8" bolts, (2) 1/4" washers, and (2) 1/4" nylock nuts. Tighten with a 7/16" wrench and the provided 4mm T-handle hex key. For quicker assembly you can use a drill and a 4mm hex bit instead of the provided hex key. Finally, insert the adirondack pins into the seat of the chair. You can use a soft mallet to tap the pins into place. If you loosened the bolts in the pivot spacer before step 1, go ahead and tighten those at this time. The hardware necessary to assemble the Adirondack chair is usually fairly minimal, and is often included in Adirondack chair kits. The purchaser of the kit will need to invest in some tools if he or she does not already have the necessary equipment; a screwdriver or drill will most certainly be necessary to drive in screws, while other tools such as a hammer, saw, file, Allen wrench, and wood glue may or may not be necessary to complete construction of Adirondack chair kits. Some kits may require the purchaser to paint the finished product, or stain it, to protect it from moisture from rain or other weather. Is Amazon actually giving you the best price? Pine: While pine takes more maintenance than teak, it is far more affordable. This light wood slowly fades to an attractive gray. As a softwood, it’s more susceptible to dings, scratches, and, unfortunately, bugs. You’ll need to refinish it every year or two to keep the wood looking its best and to help protect it from the weather. But if upkeep doesn’t worry you and you’re on a tight budget, pine is an excellent choice.

In the late 1800s, the Adirondack Mountains were fast becoming a popular location for retreat among the wealthy of New York City. The publishing of Adventures in the wilderness; or Camp-Life in the Adirondacks by William H.H. Murray, spurred on the tourists. Willliam H. H. Murray is identified as the founder of the Outdoor Movement, and wrote the book for those who, “pent up in narrow offices and narrower studies, weary of the city’s din, long for a breath of mountain air and the free life by field and flood.” This book started the trend among city dwellers to vacation in the country.
