Cypress: This popular wood has a beautiful grain and natural oils that protect it from bug infestations, warping, and rotting. A white acrylic stain is often used on cypress Adirondack chairs.
What I had instead were two $5 plastic Adirondack chairs from the supermarket that were so flimsy, we were afraid to sit in them (yes, we may have toppled over once or twice when we sat). .
Bought 5, need 3 more but live 2 hours away from nearest COSTCO. How can I find out if my store, located in Newark, DE, has them in stock without driving the 2 hours? I’ve tried to call but can’t find a number that someone will answer.
See the grain on the arm of the chair – I love that it looks like real painted wood (without the maintenance)!
All screw holes should be pre-drilled for a couple reasons; to prevent splitting by drilling a pilot hole and to countersink sufficiently to accept a wood plug later. The plug not only helps the appearance of the chair, but will also add to the chair’s durability. We used a bit that drilled the hole and counterbored for the plug in the same operation.

How many cans of pant per chair or how many chairs does one can of paint cover? Thank you BTW, do you remember where you got those particular plastic resin Adirondack chairs? I’m asking because the new batch of A-chairs out there have been redesigned and I do not like the so-called lumbar support bump that they have now. Also, I have looked all over for the former design of the matching footstools. The “old” footstools were flat, not sloped like the “new & improved” design. Another case of a redesign that doesn’t meet many customers wants and needs. Thanks!

Cedar: While not as tough as teak, cedar does make a more durable chair than pine. The wood has a natural oil that resists bug infestations and decay. Like pine, a cedar Adirondack chair will need to be refinished every year or two. Cedar naturally adjusts to the moisture found in wet climates, making it an excellent choice for chairs that will be left in the rain.
