The hardware necessary to assemble the Adirondack chair is usually fairly minimal, and is often included in Adirondack chair kits. The purchaser of the kit will need to invest in some tools if he or she does not already have the necessary equipment; a screwdriver or drill will most certainly be necessary to drive in screws, while other tools such as a hammer, saw, file, Allen wrench, and wood glue may or may not be necessary to complete construction of Adirondack chair kits. Some kits may require the purchaser to paint the finished product, or stain it, to protect it from moisture from rain or other weather. Is Amazon actually giving you the best price? Cedar: While not as tough as teak, cedar does make a more durable chair than pine. The wood has a natural oil that resists bug infestations and decay. Like pine, a cedar Adirondack chair will need to be refinished every year or two. Cedar naturally adjusts to the moisture found in wet climates, making it an excellent choice for chairs that will be left in the rain.

Mahogany: Mahogany rivals teak and oak for strength. It has a rich, dense grain and resists decay. It also has good scratch resistance, but it requires refinishing every year to stay that way.
The Adirondack chair itself was first conceived in 1903 by a man named Thomas Lee. He was working on outdoor chairs for his summer house in the Adirondacks, and built several prototypes for his family and friends, and called it the Westport plank chair.
